“Cinderella, Cinderella…….we want your shoes!”
Cinderella’s glass slippers and Dorothy’s Ruby’s Red Slippers are arguably the most famous shoes of all time. And Swarovski has brought Cinderella’s glass slippers to life in the new Walt Disney Film, Cinderella, due in theaters next month -- March 2015.
Swarovski collaborated with Academy Award designer Sandy Powell to create these crystal slippers for the film made exclusively of Swarovski crystal. Yes, this is a SOLID piece of crystal designed into a shoe. Powell worked with Swarovski technicians in Wattens, Austria to bring the shoe to life. This one of a kind crystal shoe has a 6 inch heel, comprised of 221 facets and has Crystal Blue Aurora Borealis coating. It took a team of eight about 150 hours to create it.

In addition to the collaboration between Powell and Swarovski on the shoes, Swarovski and Powell workd together to incorporate over 1.7 million crystals to other props and costumes for the film. This includes such key costumes such as Cinderella’s blue ball gown, the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand a the wicked stepmother’s dress. But it also includes the integration of Swarovski crystals in jewelry, and hair and makeup as well. Swarovski also opened their archives to lend vintage Swarovski jewelry pieces to the film.
This is not the first time Swarovski has collaborated with a big Hollywood Movie Studio. For over 80 years they have helped add a little (or a lot) of sparkle to some of the most important and popular films….including the other most famous shoe – Dorothy’s crystal encrusted ruby red slippers from the Wizard of Oz!
